Lorne Street Garden

Self sufficiency and sustainability in Fawkner, Melbourne, Australia, and beyond!

Next step – initial planting

on August 26, 2012

With the digging, weeding, soil turning, etc complete,   it was mid February, and planting was about to start.

For a few weeks we had been raising some brassicas in seed trays – broccoli, cauliflower, and sprouts.   These grew to about 1 inch in height and were planted in the  garden,  they were allocated approximately 50% of the space we had.

As well as brassicas; carrots,  silver-beet, radishes,  french and golden beans and 2 varieties of peas.

sensibly and from the start,   we decided to net the garden.
